At the time this work was made air travel across most of Europe was shut down due to a volcano erupting in Iceland. The TV news every night featured imagery of the snow clad crater belching clouds of ash.
In this work a lampshade is fixed above a hot water urn which periodically comes to the boil. A miniature video camera translates a live view of the lampshade to the TV screen mounted on the sculpture. The live audio is created by running the signal from a contact microphone fixed to the urn to a guitar amp.
