I wanted to make a sculpture that produced an image similar to that of Colony Cam, 2005 (see 2005 Works) but in a free standing structure. Outpost was the result of this.
A crutch and two TV tray tables form the primary structural elements of the sculpture, as well as also relating to the narrative stemming from the imagery.
The camera views down the vertical TV table tray which has a needle with some strips of red plastic stuck into it, which is fluttered slightly by the clip fan. The fan also creates the sound effect. The refracted light from the rotating plastic "crystal" dishes, as seen by the camera, creates the look of a windswept snowy plain.
